Singer Shevanti Mangeshkar, daughter of Deenanath Mangeshkar and Shevanti Mangeshkar, died in Mumbai on Sunday at the age of 92. She represented a historical period in Indian cinema. As a covid patient, she was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital after she tested positive on Jan 8, 2022. She was diagnosed with pneumonia and admitted to the ICU.

In spite of all the medical efforts she received, she kept deteriorating day after day even after 90 days of treatment. Her old age, combined with covid, contributed to her demise. In order to stabilize her health condition, her breathing was supported by ventilators since Friday night. Tragically, she passed away at 8:12 am on Sunday, according to the hospital’s director.

Her death was announced this morning on Twitter by Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut. Prior to her body being taken to Shivaji park for public viewing, she will spend two hours at her home before she is accorded a state funeral. There will be two days of national mourning as well as the flying of the national flag at half-mast to honor and remember her.
