Judge: Bruce Schroeder Age, In the Rittenhouse trial, Family, Wife, Net worth, Wiki, Bio

Bruce Schroeder, 75, is a judge in the Kenosha County Circuit Court in Wisconsin, where the Rittenhouse case is now being heard.

He graduated from Marquette University in 1970 and began working for the Kenosha County District Attorney’s Office as an assistant district attorney in 1971.

In the Rittenhouse trial, Judge Bruce Schroeder’s reputation as a stern jurist shines through.

Several heated exchanges between the Kenosha County Circuit Court judge and a prosecutor startled watchers of the Kyle Rittenhouse homicide trial on Wednesday, but experts and attorneys told CNN that this is not unusual for this particular judge.

As Rittenhouse testified, Judge Bruce Schroeder, reprimanded Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger twice for his line of questioning. While testifying, Rittenhouse sobbed as he described the events of August 2020, in which he fatally shot two persons and injured another.

Tuesday’s interaction with Binger may have surprised those who hadn’t heard of Schroeder before this week, but it reaffirmed his reputation for those who had worked with him.

Schroeder, the longest-serving active judge in Wisconsin’s trial courts, is known as a strong jurist who isn’t hesitant to make severe decisions, no matter what the consequences are.

“He has a reputation for doing what he believes is the right thing and being an independent thinker,” said William Lynch, a retired attorney who served on the board of the ACLU of Wisconsin at the time of Schroeder’s ruling about ordering AIDS tests for sex workers in the 1980s.

The prosecutor was admonished twice by Schroeder.

Schroeder requested the jurors to leave the courtroom twice during cross-examination and subsequently chastised Binger for his course of questions.

The first incident included Binger’s inquiries into Rittenhouse’s post-arrest quiet, which is protected by the US Constitution’s Fifth Amendment.

“The problem is this is a grave constitutional violation for you to talk about the defendant’s silence,” Schroeder said. “You’re right on the borderline, and you may be over, but it better stop.”

The second reprimand was in response to queries regarding an incident two weeks prior to the shootings, which Schroeder stated would not be allowed to be used as evidence. Binger claimed that the incident was newly relevant to the case, but Schroeder chastised him for not seeking authorization first and stated that the material will be suppressed.

Binger believes he misread Schroeder’s decision.

“I thought your ruling was if the evidence, in this case, made that more relevant, you would admit it or at least considered its admittance,” Binger said.

Schroeder replied to Binger with a scathing remark.

“Don’t get brazen with me,” Schroeder told Binger. “You know very well that an attorney can’t go into these types of areas when the judge has already ruled without asking outside the presence of the jury to do so, so don’t give me that.”
