Everything You Need to Know About JLo’s Husband, Ben Affleck

It’s safe to say that Ben Affleck fame is widespread and that the writer-actor-director is recognized all across the world. His acting roles in movies like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Gone Girl, and Good Will Hunting have secured his status as a big name in Hollywood, along with his directorial efforts at the helm of The Town and Argo. He also happens to be married to one of the most famous female singers in recent history – Jennifer Lopez.

So, nothing about this man is inconspicuous.

However, you may find that there are several things about Affleck’s life that you weren’t previously aware of. For example, he’s a person who enjoys a wide range of different hobbies and someone who has plenty of hidden talents – like his ability to speak fluent Spanish from the age of 13.

Read on to find out more about this 50-year-old filmmaker.

Who is Ben Affleck?

Benjamin Géza Affleck (né Affleck-Boldt) was born in 1972 in the city of Berkeley, California, to his parents Chris and Timothy. He has one younger sibling, his brother Casey, and they grew up together in the Cambridge area of Massachusetts. Affleck began acting and making home movies at a young age and was always encouraged in this by both his mother and several family friends.

Hobbies and Friends

Ben Affleck has always had an interest in sports, particularly baseball, and basketball, and follows both the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, along with friends Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg. It’s also no secret that Affleck is a keen poker player who can often be found hitting the felt in prestigious casinos around the world.

Film Making

In fact, during his romantic trip around Europe with JLo in 2021, he stopped off at the Monte Carlo Casino, arguably the most glamorous gaming establishment to ever exist. However, it’s also been reported that he enjoys a home game with friends, much like any of us do. With established online platforms now offering Home Games features, keen players can create their own invite-only clubs for friends. Convincing Affleck to join you for a game of Texas Hold ’em might be a whole different story, though.

Breaking into Hollywood

Things really started to take off for Affleck career-wise when he starred as the romantic lead in Kevin Smith’s Chasing Amy. He’d previously acted in the filmmaker’s 1995 comedy Mallrats, as well as in other successful films of the early 90s like Dazed and Confused.

As he started to gain recognition for his acting, Affleck pivoted to focus on his writing skills as well. It wasn’t long before he was working with close pal Matt Damon on the script for their breakout hit, Good Will Hunting. The pair went on to win an Oscar for their efforts, Best Original Screenplay, with the film nominated for Best Picture too.

By 1998, Affleck was well on his way to becoming a household name. Hit after hit followed as he starred alongside Liv Tyler and Bruce Willis in Michael Bay’s Armageddon, acted beside his then-girlfriend Gwyneth Paltrow in Shakespeare in Love, reunited with Kevin Smith for Dogma, and then returned to Bay again for Pearl Harbor.

Directing and Filmmaking

Although Affleck continued to act, with notable movies including Daredevil (where he met his first wife, Jennifer Garner), He’s Just Not That Into You, and Gone Girl, he started to concentrate more and more on directing. And his efforts were, once again, rewarded.

All of his directorial work – from Gone Baby Gone in 2007 to this year’s Air – has received broadly positive reviews from critics. 2012 thriller Argo netted Best Director and Best Picture at the Golden Globes and the BAFTAS, as well as Best Picture at the Oscars. Affleck directed, produced, and starred in the film.

Looking to the Future

It seems like Affleck’s star is still riding high this decade although he won’t be reprising his role as Batman in upcoming DC universe movies. He will, however, star in Robert Rodriguez’s newest thriller Hypnotic, and has several directing jobs currently in development.

In between all that work, he also seems to find the odd moment to spend some quality time with his new wife, Jennifer Lopez, and their family.
